Jellystone Park Wine Country

We (well, one of us was gallivanting around Europe) just returned from a 5 night trip to Jellystone Park Wine Country (www.twcjellystone.com) near Fredericksburg, Texas.

Initial Impressions –IMG_3603 Nice ambiance, the pool is open and it’s right off a busy highway so there will be noise!

Reservations – We made our reservations online and it was very easy.  Pick the dates and the site/rate and provide the standard payment information.  Money easily spent!

Check-In – The check-in process was VERY easy.  You park, walk in to the “Ranger Station” and the friendly staff at the front desk has everything ready to go for you (assuming you had a reservation, which we did).  It took less than 5 minutes to get our site paperwork, wristbands and directions to our site.  The folks at the front desk also went over the weekend activities schedule (see below).

Site – We reserved a premium back-in site that was close to the stream running along the back of the park.  The road to the site and the site itself is gravel.  The site was relatively level and our site (not sure about all sites) had two sewer drops (we have two sewer outlets so this is always a nice perk). DSC_0320 The water, electric and cable hookups are at the back of the site and consumed all my 50 ft of hose and shoreline.  My cable wasn’t long enough so I can’t comment on the cable lineup or signal quality.  There was plenty of space between us and our neighbors on the door side of our RV.  The folks on the other side weren’t as lucky.  Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table.

Amenities/Activities – There are an abundance of amenities and activities including a pool, bounce pillow, basketball court, adults only pool table, kids pool table, Wii, laundry facility, a well-stocked store, etc.  There was a live music performance, hay rides, face painting, story time with Cindy Bear, scavenger hunts, etc.  Plenty to keep the kids entertained.

Local Attractions – If you like wine then the Fredericksburg area is the place to be.  There is an abundance of wineries and wine tours.  There are also two state parks in the Fredericksburg including the VERY popular Enchanted Rock (www.tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/enchanted-rock).  DSC_0326The local attraction highlight of this trip was the National Museum of the Pacific War (www.pacificwarmuseum.org).  They’ve expanded a lot since I last visited, what was then, the Nimitz Museum 15 or so years ago.

Other comments – We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Jellystone Texas Wine Country.  It’s a clean, well-maintained, and well run resort.   We ended up extending our stay by an additional night.  We will definitely be back!
